Hi, Friends....

I am here with a quick card for Mrs. A's Butterfly Challenge where the theme this fortnight is Butterfly/ies plus A is for Any Shape (not square/rectangle) &/or Q is for Quartz...which can be nearly any color. So this in effect is almost an Anything Goes Butterfly Shaped Card Challenge.

When I think of Quartz, I think of a sparkly white or pale yellowish-orange stone...like ocean sand. I  have native quartz rock in my yard.
Quartz chunks found on our property.
My son finds small chunks of it all the time as he is tending the property. He saves it in a little pile.  Perhaps we'll edge a flower bed with it sometime. Geologists have traced the quartz in our area back to the neighboring state of Montana. It was deposited across Idaho by glaciers some time back in history.

For my card, I used a sparkly DCWV pre-made card blank that I die cut with a scalloped circle die for the shape.  Oops...I cut it too close to the fold.  No matter.  I scored the back piece to fold open a half inch from the botched top and glued the tops together inside.  Problem solved!

I used a piece from my stack of marker refill water backgrounds.  I came to the sudden epiphany that these qualify as "smooshed"!   They are not smooshed in the more familiar way of adding ink to an acrylic block or craft mat, misting, and then smooshing.  Instead, they are smooshed because I misted the sheets of paper that were intensely colored and smooshed a fresh sheet of paper on top to allow some of the ink to transfer.  So...they are smooshed.  That's my story and I am sticking to it!!  :)

Since Quartz was one of the Butterfly Challenge elements, I wanted to go sparkly with my card. I chose a glittery card base, sparkly embossing powder for my sentiment, a butterfly sticker with holographic outlines, and a crystal flourish. Love how this card gleams. I had to actually photograph it in my own shadow to be able to show the details without it looking like one big sparkle!! :)
Supplies used include:
Sizzix - Circles, Scallop die set
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Bigger Bang Confetti stamp set (limited edition, no longer available)
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Happy stamp set
Doodlebug - Mini Doilies in Limeade
Zva Creative - Crystal flourish

Hope you enjoyed my card today. Thank you for all your comments and encouragement. Hope your day is a delight!!

  4. Wow Janis!!! I saw this card on another challenge blog and had to come over for a close look. This is gorgeous in everyway and I love that you cut a scalloped circle shape from that sparkly DCWV card base. Great save on your cutting too, because there was no way you were going to toss that glittery yumminess! The butterfly sticker and that crystal flourish make it magical!
